Winter holiday accommodation at Melanya Mountain Retreat
During October we start the annual preparations for winter. The last of the hay and animal feed is stored away, the vegetable garden is harvested and the walnuts and wild berries join the line to their final destination of pickles and preserves.
Although our accommodation is not officially open we are willing to accept guests during the winter months, however the emphasis on this arrangement is time. If you have time on your side then a winter break in the mountains is an ideal way to spend christmas or enjoy some serious activities during the autumn when the temperatures are cooler. If you have deadlines a winter break in a remote mountain retreat may not be for you. The weather in the Rhodope Mountains can be very changeable. From the calm and sublime to the ferocious and damning, things can get tricky very quickly for the unprepared adventurer. The villages in the region are reached by snow plough after a heavy winter covering, with Lyubino usually being cut off for a handful of days at most. Your accommodation will be fully prepared.
Stranded during winter in the mountains
Load up the woodburner, crack a bottle of something warming and relax. Enjoy the excitement of being temporarily marooned in the mountains together with the satisfaction of being surrounded with a multitude of supplies and everything you need to sit out the storm.
