About Melanya Mountain Retreat
The hunt for our own slice of paradise started in 2003 when we decided that our busy western lifestyles were lacking a real sense of fulfilment. Scouring the planet online, we discovered the diversity and beauty of the Rhodope Mountains with our first visit to Bulgaria confirming the resounding warmth and dignity of the Bulgarian people. We had always preferred a peaceful mountain holiday to the hectic beach resorts and our home in Lyubino submerged us into the rural Bulgarian way of life, which is completely organic and at one with nature.
The office, the phones, the traffic, just couldn't be farther away after a few days in the mountains. Time flies when you're having fun... and somehow the experience of living in the Rhodopes offers a rather unique feeling of well being when the sun sets and another beautiful day draws to a close.
Melanya is far more than a relaxing break for us. It's a way of life that questions the need for western ideals and delivers a sense of fulfilment and personal achievement that money simply cannot buy. Living in harmony with the seasons, village life in Lyubino hasn't changed for centuries. The people that inhabit the villages in the mountains do so because that is the way of life they have chosen.
